Former Australian pacer Glenn McGrath on Saturday (5th March) penned down a heartfelt tribute for Shane Warne. The bowling great was left devastated by the untimely demise of the leg-spinner.

In what was terrible news for every cricket lover, Warne passed away on Friday at the age of 52 due to a suspected heart attack in Thailand. The spin wizard was found unresponsive in his villa in Thailand.

Warne’s sudden demise sent shockwaves across the cricketing world including his former teammates, with whom he had spent most of the time. Among all the teammates, the leg-spinner formed an incredible bowling partnership with pacer Glenn McGrath.

The duo back then was the two main pillars of the Australian team and one of the main reasons behind the team’s dominance from the early 1990s to 2007.

Both McGrath and Warne played more than 100 Tests together, among which the team won 71, and claimed 1001 wickets between them, which is most by the bowling pair of any country. The pair helped Australia become World champions and win Ashes. They also retired from Test cricket together in 2007 after the Ashes 2006/07, which their side won 5-0.

Taking to the official Instagram account, Glenn McGrath said that he was left devastated by the sudden demise of Shane Warne. He hailed leg-spinner as the ‘ultimate competitor’, saying that he many times brought Australia back into the game.

"Just absolutely devastated today. Warnie was larger than life. I thought nothing could ever happen to him. He lived more in his life than most people would live in 20. He was the ultimate competitor. He thought the game was never lost, that he could turn it around and bring us to victory, which he did so many times. I think he lived his life the same way," McGrath wrote.

Glenn McGrath talked about how Shane Warne’s presence never made any moment dull and said that there will never be anyone like the spin king.

"There seemed to be never a dull moment. He was a great mate and a loving father. He loved his kids so much and my thoughts are with Brooke, Jackson & Summer. My thoughts are also with Keith, Bridgette and Jason. Rest In Peace my good mate, there’ll never again be anyone like you," he added.
