Roy had recently pulled out of the upcoming IPL 2022.
England cricketer Jason Roy has now given another shock to the cricket world after pulling out of the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 to spend quality time with his family.
Roy was picked by the Gujarat Titans (GT) for his base price of INR 2 crores at the IPL 2022 mega auction last month, but he suddenly decided to skip the tournament due to bio-bubble fatigue, as well as his desire to spend time with himself and his family in the UK.
Now, the 31-year-old batter has made himself unavailable to Surrey in the early rounds of the upcoming County Championship 2022, which is set to begin in England on April 7.
However, there is currently no fixed date for Roy’s return to cricket, but he will remain in contact with his Surrey Club during the period of his indefinite break from the game.
Alec Stewart, Surrey Director of Cricket, stated: “Everyone at Surrey is here to support Jason and fully understands his decision to step away from the game for a period of time in order to be with his family. When he is ready to return to cricket, we will be here ready to help and prepare him for his upcoming challenges in the game.”
Meanwhile, Roy said in a statement: “After more than two years living under COVID restrictions and in a number of bubbles, I feel now is the right time to be with my wife and young children.”
He concluded, “I'd like to thank all of the Surrey coaching staff for their patience and Surrey Members for their understanding. I will be following the team closely while I'm away from the game and working hard to be at my best when I do get back to the middle.”
