Shane Warne also pointed out where the England cricket team is lacking and it's not quality players.
Ex-Australia leg-spinner Shane Warne has shown interest in the England Cricket team's head coach job. Warne is the coach of the men's London Spirit franchise in the Hundred.
England's head coach role is vacant after Chris Silverwood had left the role following their 0-4 defeat to Australia in the Ashes 2021-22. There have been a few changes in the side as well, like veteran pacer James Anderson and Stuart Broad not finding a place for the upcoming series against West Indies.
Warne believes he would do a great job and went on to speak on where England are lacking. He said England have the quality players but they are not getting the basics of the game right.
“I’d like to do it, it’s a great time to be England coach. I think I’d do a pretty good job, there’s a lot to work with. There are so many good players in England and a lot of depth, but you’ve got to get some of the basics right. You can’t bowl no-balls and drop so many catches, but you’ve got the players, they’re just not performing," said Warne on the Sky Sports cricket podcast.
Recently, Justin Langer had also resigned as coach of the Australian men's cricket team. Cricket Australia (CA) then revealed that Langer was offered a short-term extension to his current contract, which sadly he has opted not to accept.
But Warne slammed criticized CA for poorly handling Langer's exit and called it 'disgraceful'. “Cricket Australia were disgraceful in the way they handled it,” he said.
“Winning an Ashes series and a World Cup, it doesn’t get much bigger than that. But [Langer] was a dead man walking. When I didn’t hear the captain or any other players sticking up for him, saying he was fantastic, I found that really disappointing," said Warne.
“Why couldn’t Cricket Australia come out and say they were not renewing his contract straight away but would wait until the end of the summer, see who the best candidate is, and if Langer is still the best candidate give him a contract? If I were England I’d be jumping at him," he concluded.
