Team India attained the No. 1 position in the ICC T20I team rankings after their convincing 17-run victory over West Indies in the final T20I at the Eden Gardens, Kolkata on Sunday (February 20).

With this triumph, the Men in Blue also clinched an emphatic 3-0 clean sweep of the series and surpassed England who had 269 rating points to take the top spot.

“While England and India both have the same rating across 39 international matches in the rankings period (269), India has a total of 10,484 points, 10 more than England's 10,474,” ICC’s official release stated.

Pakistan (rating of 266), New Zealand (255) and South Africa (253) round out the top five teams in the rankings, while Australia (249) remain in sixth after their 4-1 series victory over Sri Lanka.

India have been dominant in the shortest format ever since Rohit Sharma took over the reign in November last year. They have won their last nine T20I fixtures and their last defeat was against New Zealand during the T20 World Cup 2021.

India’s next T20I assignment is against Sri Lanka at home, beginning Thursday (February 24) in Lucknow.
