Butt had asked Sarfaraz to step up as captain after Quetta Gladiators' poor showing in ongoing PSL 2022.
Following Quetta Gladiators’ defeat against Multan Sultans in the ongoing Pakistan Super League (PSL), Butt heavily criticized Ahmed and his attitude towards players. During the course of the game, the Gladiator's skipper was seen lashing out at his bowlers in the crunch moments of the game.
Salman Butt, who appeared on a news channel as a cricket expert, said: “They (Quetta Gladiators) also lost last year. You (Sarfaraz Ahmed) are the captain of the team since the inception of PSL. He is making things difficult for himself and he won’t have any answers tomorrow.
He should focus on himself and his performance. He has been travelling as a second wicketkeeper with the Pakistan team since the last couple of years. So, he needs to concentrate on himself instead bothering about other player’s performance.”
He also said that when the team and captain is not doing well, then the actual test of captaincy and leadership qualities begins and Sarfaraz Ahmed needs to buck up and step up to his responsibilities.
However, his words didn’t go down well with Sarfaraz Ahmed, who on Twitter, launched a scathing assault on the former Pakistan captain, without taking his name, but it was evident from the post whom it was directed at.
“Pakistan ko on duty beachne wala fixer jub niyat pe bhashan dega phir to Allah he Hafiz hai (If the one who sold Pakistan on duty is giving lectures, then only god can protect) .#justsying,” tweeted the 34-year-old.
Salman Butt is infamous for being found guilty of spot-fixing along with Pakistan bowlers Mohammad Asif and Mohammad Amir in a 2010 Lord’s Test match against Australia. Butt was the Pakistan captain then, but he, along with others served jail time as well and was banned for their crimes.
While Mohammad Amir made a comeback to international cricket in 2016, before retiring in 2021, Asif and Butt couldn’t do so, despite Butt playing in the Pakistan domestic cricket for a long time.
