Indian pacer Mohammad Shami said that he’s not thinking about captaincy but if given chance he’s ready to take any responsibility.
Virat Kohli stepping down as the Indian Test captain has given rise to many questions regarding who'll be the next Test skipper of the Indian team going forward.
Kohli’s decision to step down as the Indian skipper came after India’s 2-1 defeat to South Africa in the Test series. Since then, many fans and pundits have suggested different names for the vacant leadership position in the Indian Test team.
While many say Rohit Sharma being the white-ball skipper and vice-captain in Tests should lead the Indian side in Tests, some suggested KL Rahul and Rishabh Pant’s name for the role.
In an interaction with India.com, Mohammad Shami was asked about his views on the captaincy role, replying to which he said that he’s not thinking about that at the moment. But if the opportunity comes his way, he’s ready to take any responsibility.

He said that no one would give up the chance to captain the Indian team but it’s not the only thing he’s looking at as he wants to contribute in every manner for the team.
“I am not thinking too much about captaincy at the moment. I am ready for whatever responsibility is given to me. To be honest, who doesn’t want to captain the India team but it is not the only thing and I am looking to contribute in whichever manner possible for the team,” Mohammad Shami said.
While talking about not playing in the ODI series against South Africa, Mohammad Shami said that he’s available for selection in all formats of the game and is looking forward to being part of India's white-ball setup.
“I am available for selection in all formats and if it happens, I am more than looking forward to it,” he said.
Notably, Mohammad Shami was India’s leading wicket-taker in the recently concluded Test series against South Africa. The right-arm pacer took 14 wickets and took a crucial five-wicket haul in the first game in Centurion, which helped his side win the match.
