BCCI will soon announce its decision regarding the venues for the white-ball series.
The upcoming limited-overs series between India and West Indies is likely to be played across two venues – Kolkata and Ahmedabad due to the COVID-19 situation in the country.
The COVID-19 surge continues to sweep across India, as the country reported 3,17,532 new COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours, breaching the 3 lakh mark for the first time in eight months.
Considering the COVID situation in India, the Board of Control for Cricket in India’s (BCCI) Tours, Fixtures, and Technical Committee has proposed the idea to stage six white-ball matches in Kolkata and Ahmedabad as the BCCI will now take the final call on the matter.
Sources in the know of developments told ANI: “The BCCI's Tours, Fixtures and Technical Committee had a meeting today and they discussed the COVID-19 situation in the country and how the West Indies series should possibly go ahead. They have up come up with a plan of playing three ODIs and three T20Is across two venues -- Kolkata and Ahmedabad.”
The source added, “The proposal is to have three ODIs at one venue and the T20Is at another. The committee has sent the proposal to the BCCI and now the final decision will be taken by the board.”
Notably, India and West Indies are scheduled to play three ODIs and as many as T20Is, beginning February 6. Originally, Ahmedabad, Jaipur, and Kolkata were slated to host the ODI series, while the T20Is were slated to be played in Cuttack, Visakhapatnam, and Thiruvananthapuram.
