Former India wicketkeeper-batter Syed Kirmani on Sunday (December 26) said the BCCI administrators and Virat Kohli should display harmony to end the issues between them. Recently, Kohli's press conference after being removed from ODI captaincy had exposed the communication gap from BCCI.

Kohli had already given up T20I captaincy after the T20 World Cup 2021, and later his ODI leadership was taken away with no prior discussion. He also contradicted BCCI President Sourav Ganguly's statement regarding the T20I captaincy which stirred controversy.

"It is important to have harmony among one another, it is important to communicate before you take an important decision. Egos play a very big role in an individual's life. That should not be there, Kohli is a powerful player. The selection committee and BCCI President have their power, it is important to have harmony to sort out all the issues," Kirmani told ANI.

Ganguly had told ANI that he had personally spoken to Kohli to reconsider his decision to step down as T20I captain. "It's a call that the BCCI and the selectors took together. Actually, the BCCI had requested Virat to not step down as the T20I skipper but obviously, he did not agree. And the selectors then did not feel it right to have two different captains for two white-ball formats," he had said.

"So it was decided that Virat will continue as Test captain and Rohit will take over as the white-ball captain. I as President personally spoke to Virat Kohli and the chairman of selectors has also spoken to him," the BCCI president added.

But Kohli clarified that there was no communication regarding ODI captaincy, and also BCCI never asked him to think twice before quitting the role in T20I.

“Whatever was said about the communication that happened about the decision that was made was inaccurate,” Kohli said. “I was contacted one and half hours before selection meeting on 8th for Test series and there was no prior communication to me at all since I announced my decision on T20 captaincy.”
