Agarwal said his knock in Mumbai was all about grit and determination.
Indian opener Mayank Agarwal has opened up about his stunning hundred in the first innings of the ongoing second and final Test against New Zealand at Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai.
Agarwal said that his knock of 150 off 311 balls means a lot to him and the opener was happy that he was able to get his hundred at the iconic Wankhede Stadium, saying it’s always special to get a century in Mumbai for an Indian player. He also said that his knock was all about grit and determination.
Speaking to his teammate Prasidh Krishna, Mayank said in a video posted on bcci.tv after Day 1: “Definitely this innings means a lot to me. Getting a Test hundred at Wankhede is always special for any Indian. I would just like to say that this innings was not the nicest looking, not the easiest of innings but it was all about grit and determination. I am happy that I was able to stick to the plan and bat through the day.”
On tackling New Zealand spinner Ajaz Patel, who scalped 10 wickets in the first innings, Agarwal said: “To Ajaz, if I wanted to go over the top, then I wanted to get as close as possible to the ball. Sometimes, I yorked myself in the process. If I could very close, then it did not matter. Very honestly, I was not planning the celebration. I am grateful to God for helping me achieve whatever I have managed to.”
He further said that Test cricket gives a different feel to him. Agarwal signed off by saying, “I think scoring runs in Test cricket means everything; I really look forward to this format. This kind of feeling you do not get very often, but Test cricket does that to you.”
