Earlier this year, former U-19 World Cup-winning captain Unmukt Chand stunned everyone with his decision to quit Indian cricket at the age of 28.

After retiring from Indian cricket, Chand became eligible to ply his trade around the world and he shifted his base to USA.

Last month, Unmukt earned the Player of the Tournament award after his side Silicon Valley Strikers won the Minor League Cricket title. He will also be in action in the Major League Cricket which gets underway next year.

Amid the recent turn of events, Unmukt Chand talked about his move to shift to USA and he also expressed interest to play for the USA cricket team going forward.

The right-hander will be eligible to play international cricket for UAE after spending three years in the country.

“For two years I was being sidelined by the Delhi selectors. I was really frustrated and could not understand why DDCA was not giving me chance. So, I shifted to Uttarakhand for a season. An injury hurt my cricket during that time. I was gutted, and when I got an offer from USA Cricket to play in the US, I (decided on) starting my career afresh. I’m very happy with the decision I made. It will be great to play in the BBL. I won’t be able to play in any other T20 league as I just get two months off from USA Cricket in a season," he told Hindustan Times.

“It is wonderful to be playing alongside cricketers from South Africa, West Indies, Australia, Pakistan and Sri Lanka. USA Cricket is growing massively. I want to play for USA but before that I want to make sure I score lots of runs. I will be eligible to play for USA when I complete 36 months in the country. A bigger platform is for me to establish my credentials first at the BBL and then in the USA Major T20 League to be held in 2022."

Recently, Unmukt Chand became the first Indian male to join the Big Bash League (BBL) as Melbourne Renegades roped him in for the 2021-2022 season.

Chand, a former India A skipper, had never made it to senior Indian team but was part of three IPL franchises — Delhi Daredevils (now Delhi Capitals), Mumbai Indians and Rajasthan Royals. He has the experience of 67 First-Class matches and 120 List A games, having played in the domestic circuit for more than a decade.
