Jaffer has tweeted in support of PCB saying ECB owed them after Pakistan toured England during COVID.
This was a huge blow to Pakistan’s chances of bringing back top-tier teams to play international cricket in the country, especially after New Zealand had canceled their white-ball tour recently on the day of the first ODI in Rawalpindi. The BlackCaps cited getting security advice from their government and refused to play any matches and traveled to Dubai from Islamabad.
This led to PCB chief Ramiz Raja and other former Pakistani cricketers criticizing both New Zealand and England for not keeping their commitment to touring Pakistan.
Wasim Jaffer then showed solidarity with Pakistan and said that England owes a lot to Pakistan as they toured the country amidst the COVID pandemic to restart cricket.
Jaffer tweeted, “The @TheRealPCB have every reason to be disappointed with the ECB. Pak and WI toured England last year during pandemic before vaccines. England owes so much to both Pak and WI. Least ECB could do is not cancel the reciprocal tours. There are no winners when cricket is cancelled.”
The former India batsman and domestic cricket stalwart was slammed for supporting Pakistan in this matter as many opined that it was the country’s fault for creating an environment that was deemed unsafe by security agencies of foreign countries, who advised their sporting teams to not travel to Pakistan.
One of the fans slammed Jaffer saying that he is the kind of person who cheered for Pakistan in name of sportsmanship when India-Pakistan clashed. The fan deleted the tweet soon, but here is a screenshot of his post.
