Former Australian cricketer Dav Whatmore is all set to quit as head coach of the Nepal cricket team after the conclusion of the World Cup qualifiers on September 19.

Whatmore has on Friday (August 27) conveyed his decision to step down as Nepal head coach to the Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN), citing he was finding it tough to spend time away from his family during the COVID-19 pandemic.

He has sent his resignation to CAN and requested them to release him immediately after Nepal's last game in the ICC Cricket World Cup League 2 matches in Oman on September 19. Former Pakistan, Bangladesh, and Sri Lanka coach was appointed as Nepal's head coach in December 2020.

In a letter accessed by Times Now, Whatmore said: “The letter is to confirm you that I want to resign from the head coach position of Nepal Cricket Team immediately after the conclusion of the world cup qualifier on 19th September to be held in Oman. I also wish to confirm you that this is a very tough decision I have to make after making the deepest of my thoughts on the same.”

The coach also insisted that it was a very tough decision for him but was his totally personal decision, as the CAN and the players had been extremely cooperative with him during his tenure.

He added, “Due to the ongoing pandemic around the world, it is very difficult for me to stay away from my family for such a long time. I wish to confirm you that this is entirely my personal decision and I truly enjoyed working with CAN & its players who are extremely co-operative to me throughout the entire tenure.”

Whatmore further said his manager Mr. Kaustav Lahiri will speak on his behalf further, as he wanted to concentrate on the upcoming World Cup qualifying matches.

He concluded, “As I fully want to concentrate on the upcoming world cup qualifying games hence I will request you to speak with my manager Mr Kaustav Lahiri if you have any queries as he is fully authorized to speak on my behalf. It is a real honor to get associated with CAN & I truly enjoyed my time with CAN. I wish CAN all the very best for the future.”
