Joe Root overtakes Virat Kohli; Jasprit Bumrah back in top 10 in latest ICC Test rankings update

ICC released the latest update of their Test and T20I rankings.

England captain Joe Root and India fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah have seen a rise in the latest update of the ICC Men’s Test players rankings on Wednesday, August 11, 2021. This is thanks to their superlative performances in the first Test which was played at Trent Bridge.

Root overtook his India counterpart Virat Kohli in the rankings after scores of 64 and 109 in the Trent Bridge Test, for which he was named the Player of the Match as well. This outing has earned him 49 rating points and Root has moved to 4th position in the rankings.

Jasprit Bumrah has moved 10 spots to return to the top 10 for bowlers with a match haul of nine for 110. Bumrah, who held a career-high third position in September 2019, is now ranked ninth.

James Anderson is now at the 7th spot, Ollie Robinson moved to the 46th spot and Shardul Thakur is now at the 55th spot in the bowlers' rankings.

India all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja has progressed three slots to 36th among batters thanks to a half-century, while KL Rahul re-entered the Test rankings at 56th spot after 84 and 26 runs in Trent Bridge Test match.

Apart from the update in the Test rankings, ICC also released a new update in the T20I players' rankings as well.

Bangladesh’s Shakib Al Hasan has regained the top spot among all-rounders, gained three slots to reach 53rd among batters, and reached the 12th spot in bowling rankings. Fast bowler Mustafizur Rahman moved to the 10th spot in rankings with five wickets in 4 matches.
