England's fast bowler Jofra Archer has been ruled out for the rest of the year due to the stress fracture of his right elbow, England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) confirmed on Thursday (August 5). Archer was struggling with the elbow injury for a long time.

Earlier this year in May, Archer played in the County Championship for Sussex. But his long-standing elbow injury resurfaced during Sussex’s match against Kent. He had already missed the first phase of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 and home Test series against New Zealand.

"Jofra Archer underwent further scans on his injured right elbow last week. The scans revealed that he has suffered a recurrence of a stress fracture of his right elbow," ECB said in a statement.

The speedster won't be a part of the ongoing five-match Test series against India, the second phase of IPL 2021 in UAE, the ICC Men's T20 World Cup in UAE and the Ashes in Australia.

"In response to these findings, he has been ruled out for the rest of the year and will miss the current Test series against India, the ICC Men's T20 WC 2021, and the Ashes series in Australia.

"The 26-year-old, who had an operation in May to remove a bone fragment from his elbow, returned to play last month. As part of his return-to-bowling programme, he became aware of increasing discomfort in his elbow during matches for Sussex in the Vitality Blast and a 50-over friendly against Oxfordshire.

"The operation is not related to the stress fracture that sidelined the player previously. He will now spend time on an extended break from cricket before returning for a medical review in early autumn," further read the statement from ECB.

England is already missing Ben Stokes, who took an indefinite mental health break from all forms of cricket. Now, after the confirmation on Archer's omission from the upcoming big events, England must be concerned over their preparations.
