A new captain for the Bangladesh T20I series will be named later.
The injury aggravated in the fifth game of that series and the right-hand explosive batsman has not featured in either of the two completed ODIs against West Indies while the third ODI is rescheduled at the Kensington Oval in Barbados on 27 July (Tuesday).
Finch has already been sent back to Australia as the Aussie might be needing a surgery to mend his right knee. The decision to send the Australian captain back home was taken in order to give him time to get fit before the upcoming T20 World Cup.
“I'm extremely disappointed to be heading home. This was considered the best course of action rather than travelling to Bangladesh, not being able to play, and losing that recovery time. I will have the surgery if required and start the recovery process ahead of the World Cup,” Finch said on Sunday (25 July).
The 34-year-old will have to serve the necessary 14-day quarantine after landing in Australia before he can undergo a surgery. In absence of Finch, wicket-keeper batsman Alex Carey will be leading the Australian team in the third and final ODI of the three-match series against West Indies.
While the T20 captain for the Bangladesh tour is yet to be announced, Matthew Wade is the designated vice-captain who also has led the Aussies against India in one game in Finch's absence last year.
Australia will be travelling to Dhaka from Barbados for the upcoming limited-overs tour of Bangladesh which consists of five-match T20I series with all the matches to be played at Shere Bangla National Stadium in Dhaka.
