BAN v AUS 2021: Mushfiqur Rahim to miss the T20I series against Australia

Bangladesh and Australia to clash in 5 T20Is in August.

Australia is touring Bangladesh for a five-match T20I series starting from 3 August. This is a part of ICC T20 World Cup 2021 preparations that most of the teams are involved in.

Cricket Australia (CA) and Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) had agreed on a strict COVID-19 protocol which included 10-day quarantine that began earlier this week.

However, veteran Bangladesh wicket-keeper Mushfiqur Rahim failed to make it to the bio-secure bubble in time and as a result, will miss the series. The BCB tried to negotiate with CA to reduce the quarantine period but the Australian board refused to budge.

"He had to return home because of his parents and you cannot do anything in this situation. Mushfiqur was eager to play but we cannot help it as CA was not ready to compromise," BCB cricket operation chairman Akram Khan told Circbuzz.

The match officials are already in quarantine and the rest of the Bangladesh team will have a bubble-to-bubble transfer after completing the ongoing tour of Zimbabwe.
