Pakistan lost T20I series to England, while India beat Sri Lanka in 2nd ODI to go 2-0 up in 3-match series.
A new-look Indian team under the captaincy of Shikhar Dhawan took an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match ODI series against Sri Lanka. Pakistan, led by Babar Azam, on the other hand, lost the third T20I to England to concede the series 2-1.
Pakistan had already lost the ODI series to a second-string England team 3-0.
According to Mushtaq, India is benefitting from frequent A tours to England and Australia whereas Pakistan is suffering as there is still not enough cricket at home.
“Pakistan cricket has suffered a lot because of no international cricket at home but India has done the right thing by investing on its under-19 and A team tours. I remember I was working in England for like four summers and once in Australia and every year I saw some Indian team touring those countries,” the off-spinner told PTI in an interview.
Mushtaq who has worked as a spin consultant/coach with different teams including England, West Indies, and New Zealand urged countries to have budgets having regular permanent spin coaches with their teams.
“There is also a need to have permanent spin coaches at domestic level and the junior levels. Role of spinners in the subcontinent and UAE is always vital but there is no dew factor because a lot of matches are held under lights,” the right-arm spinner said.
As far as the Indian team is concerned, the Shikhar Dhawan and Co. will take on Sri Lanka in the third and final ODI of the three-match series on Friday (23 July).
