West Indies announced a 15-man squad for Australia ODIs.
The Cricket West Indies (CWI) has on Thursday (July 8) announced a 15-member West Indies squad for the upcoming three-match ODI series – part of the ICC World Cup Super League – against Australia starting on July 20 in Barbados.
Shimron Hetmyer, Sheldon Cottrell, and Roston Chase have been recalled to the West Indies squad for the ODI series against Australia at home while Kyle Mayers and Kevin Sinclair have lost their places.
The trio of Hetmyer, Cottrell and Chase were overlooked for the ODI assignment against Sri Lanka in March after they failed to meet the team management's fitness standards.
The upcoming three-match ODI series – the first series between the West Indies and Australia in the Caribbean nation since 2016 – will be played at Kensington Oval, Barbados on July 20, 22, and 24.
Roger Harper, Lead Selector stated: “This squad is coming off a comprehensive series win against Sri Lanka which should boost their confidence going into what is expected to be a tougher contest against Australia. The return of Shimron Hetmyer, Roston Chase, and Sheldon Cottrell adds greater depth and experience to the squad.”
He signed off by saying, “Playing in familiar home conditions, hopefully, will bring out the best in each player thereby enabling the team to perform at a consistently high standard. This CG Insurance ODI series against Australia is part of the ICC Cricket World Cup qualification process where every game and every point counts, so it is very important.”
West Indies squad:
Kieron Pollard (captain), Shai Hope, Fabian Allen, Darren Bravo, Roston Chase, Sheldon Cottrell, Shimron Hetmyer, Jason Holder, Akeal Hosein, Alzarri Joseph, Evin Lewis, Jason Mohammed, Anderson Philip, Nicholas Pooran, Romario Shepherd
