Three players, four staff members of England team tested positive for COVID-19.
Even though all the infected members were placed in isolation and a new squad was announced, former Pakistan cricketer Ramiz Raja talked about the attitude of England players towards the COVID-19 pandemic was bizarre and some of them did not follow protocols as well.
“England players have tested positive, which is not a good thing. But it can bring negativity into the dressing room and you need to reboot your combination. They have brought Ben Stokes back, so you can understand their desperation,” Raja said in his latest YouTube video.
“Their attitude towards Covid-19 was very bizarre. They felt like they were in jail and were not ready to follow protocols like wearing masks and social distancing, and this desperation has resulted in their team grabbing negative headlines,” he added.
As far as Pakistan are concerned, they will be taking on hosts England in a three-match ODI series slated to begin from July 8 at Sophia Gardens in Cardiff followed by a three-match T20I series scheduled from July 16.
Thus, with England forced to pick a relatively inexperienced side, the cricketer-turned-commentator feels Pakistan may have an advantage in the upcoming series.
“Pakistan team has gotten advantage and they should benefit from the negativity in England’s dressing room. Pakistan has got some breathing space because of this tragedy, but it remains to be seen how they will play,” the 58-year-old signed off.
The second ODI between the two teams will be played at Lord’s with full capacity crowds and the third ODI at Edgbaston will see about 80% capacity fans to witness the game.
