England clean swept Sri Lanka in T20Is and won first two ODIs, while 3rd was washed out.
According to the visiting skipper Kusal Perera, the Sri Lankan team played well in patches on a ‘tough tour’ as they were clean swept in the shortest format and the home team was on its way to do the same in the ODI series after bundling Sri Lanka out for just 166 in the 3rd ODI, but the rain gods played spoilsport.
“It was a tough tour for us. We performed well in patches but it wasn't enough. We need to concentrate on our batting. The boys have to trust their ability and need to express themselves and that's the only way to move forward. There are a lot of positives for us but we need to be consistent,” Perera said.
While Sri Lanka struggled to get going and test this English team, skipper Eoin Morgan felt England performed really well and lauded the team for being ruthless and not taking anything for granted.
“We were dominant today, and we are delighted as we were ruthless. That has been the trend in the T20Is and ODIs, the guys haven't taken things for granted. The guys were willing to show character and fight,” the English captain said.
As far as Sri Lanka are concerned, after this England tour, they will be hosting Team India led by Shikhar Dhawan for a three-match ODI and as many T20I series slated to begin from 13 July with all six matches to be played at R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo.
