Even though Virat Kohli has been the most successful Test captain for India, he is yet to win an ICC title.

Thus, after yet another defeat in a crucial match in an ICC tournament when the subcontinental giants lost to New Zealand by 8 wickets in the World Test Championship (WTC) final, Kohli received a lot of criticism.

This was the third loss Team India suffered in a knockout game in an ICC tournament, after the final of the Champions Trophy 2017 and the semi-final of the World Cup 2019. There were some pundits who even suggested having split captaincy considering how demanding all three formats are at present.

Despite all that, former India cricketer and Team India batting coach Sanjay Bangar backed the Delhi-based right-hand batsman to smash all the captaincy records and lead more games than any other captain.

If as leaders, you have the opportunity to actually dictate the way the culture of the team is and the outcomes that the team derives, then, in that case, all of them (nominees) were in quest of excellence, Bangar said in Star Sports’ show ‘Cricket Live.’

So is Virat, I do not doubt that he'll end up being probably captaining more than any other captain in the history of the game,” he further added.

Kohli has led India in 61 Tests the most so far. Under Virat Kohli, India has won 36 Test matches. In the ODIs, Team India has registered 65 victories from the 95 matches. Kohli has captained the T20I side 45 times, and India has won 27 matches.

According to some experts, as all the formats have an ICC title, it is really difficult to lead three different sides in three different formats and it only makes sense to divide the workload, and split captaincy is the way to that.
