Sangakkara was among the 10 greats of the game who entered ICC’s illustrious Hall of Fame ahead of the WTC final.
His induction ceremony took place during the lunch break of the third day's play in Southampton. Former India opener Sunil Gavaskar presented Sangakkara with a special cap and welcomed him into the elite club.
Notably, both Gavaskar and Sangakkara are part of the commentary panel for the ongoing WTC final.

Widely regarded as one of the greatest batsmen, Kumar Sangakkara represented Sri Lanka in 134 Tests, amassing 12400 runs at a phenomenal average of 57.40 with 38 centuries and 52 fifties.
In 50-over cricket, the southpaw aggregated a whopping 14234 runs at 41.98, including 25 tons and 93 half-centuries.
A member of the 2014 T20 World Cup-winning side, Sangakkara featured in 56 shortest format games, scoring 1382 runs at a strike rate of 119.55.
