Indian and Mumbai Indians (MI) leg-spinner Rahul Chahar reveals that representing the Indian team in Test cricket is his childhood dream.

Rahul Chahar was very close to his dream of representing Team India in Test format as he received his maiden call-up during the four-Test series against England this year. The leg-spinner along with Shahbaz Nadeem was named as the cover for Akshar Patel who suffered an injury ahead of the first Test match.

However, Shahbaz Nadeem got a nod ahead of him and with Akshar Patel regaining fitness after the first Test, made the selectors withdraw Rahul Chahar’s name from the squad.

In an interview with India TV, Rahul Chahar revealed that it was his childhood dream to represent India in Test matches.

“Yes, I would love to wear it (India’s whites) because I have had this dream since I was an 8-year-old to win India’s Test match cap. I was very close to it, especially during the Test matches against England,” Rahul Chahar told India TV.

Chahar pointed out that he was very close to getting the Indian Test cap during the England series but said that he's ready to go step-by-step towards achieving it.

“I was on standby and was also included in the squad for one game. So, I am very close but still, I have to go step-by-step and work hard and prove myself,” he said.

Rahul Chahar was last seen in action in IPL 2021. The leg-spinner scalped 11 wickets in 7 matches and was placed fourth on the list of purple cap holders. His heroics in the first phase of the tournament are likely to earn him a place in the Indian squad for the upcoming tour of Sri Lanka.

The tour will see most of the white-ball specialists in action and will comprise three ODIs and three T20Is in July this year.
