Former Indian cricketer-turned-politician Gautam Gambhir has announced that his Gautam Gambhir Foundation (GGF) will start free COVID-19 vaccination camps in Delhi from Monday (June 7) and the initiative will run till the people of the national capital are completely vaccinated.

Gambhir, Bharatiya Janata Party MP, also confirmed that the vaccination camps will also be started in slum clusters in Delhi. The Gautam Gambhir Foundation said the camps will be organized in collaboration with private hospitals and all the expenses will be borne by the foundation.

The first COVID-19 vaccination camp is likely to be held in the former cricketer’s parliamentary constituency East Delhi. India’s 2011 World Cup winner made the announcement after the Drug Controller of Delhi informed the Delhi High Court that Gambhir’s foundation has committed an offence under the Drugs and Cosmetics Act for hoarding unauthorized stock of COVID-19 drugs.

He added, “We will extend the vaccination camps and take them to the clusters. In the clusters, we will vaccinate the people through mobile vaccination vans. There we will do vaccination for one day a week (every Sunday) and will increase it further if needed.”

The BJP MP concluded, “Right now the camp is being organized for people above 45 years of age, but in the future, we will also get people in the age group of 18-44 years vaccinated.”
