MS Dhoni made 50 runs before being run out as India lost by 18 runs in SF to New Zealand.
During one such interaction, Neesham was asked about his feeling during the ICC World Cup 2019 semifinal match between New Zealand and India, of which he was a part. New Zealand had posted a below-par total of 239 runs in a rain-affected match.
While India was favored to win the match, the Kiwi opening bowlers ran through India’s famed top order. It was only the partnership between MS Dhoni and Ravindra Jadeja that gave New Zealand a scare that they could lose the match after being reduced to 92/6 chasing 240 to win.
Jadeja fell for 77 runs in 59 balls, but there was hope as MS Dhoni was still there and every Indian fan prayed that he performs a miracle. However, he was run out while trying to retain strike, after Martin Guptill affected a direct hit and he walked back to the pavilion with 50 runs to his name and took the hopes of India reaching the World Cup final with him.

New Zealand won by 18 runs and reached their second consecutive World Cup final.
Jimmy Neesham was also present on the field when this historic run-out took place. The New Zealand players were ecstatic after Dhoni’s dismissal, knowing their place in the World Cup final is confirmed.
A fan asked him about his feeling before and after MS Dhoni’s dismissal and Neesham said that “Before: Cool we’re probably gonna win, After: Cool we’re definitely gonna win.”
This match proved to be the final international match for MS Dhoni in India colors as he announced his retirement in August 2020.
