Sri Lanka's Shiran Fernando tests negative for COVID-19 ahead of 3rd ODI against Bangladesh

Fernando had tested positive in first two rounds of testing and returned a negative report in the third round.

Before the beginning of the ODI series between Bangladesh and Sri Lanka, three members of the Sri Lankan squad tested positive for COVID-19. Even though Chaminda Vaas and Isuru Udana returned negative tests in the second round of testing, Shiran Fernando still returned a positive report.

The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) official has recently announced that the Sri Lankan pacer has tested negative in the third round of the RT-PCR tests he had undergone on Wednesday (May 26).

"Fernando tested Corona negative (in the last test)," Bangladesh's team official Rabeed Imam confirmed to Cricbuzz on Wednesday.

Even though Fernando didn’t take part in the team’s training session right away on Wednesday while the team was training to avoid a whitewash by the home team as Bangladesh won both the matches in this three-match ODI series.

As far as the home team is concerned, BCB’s chief selector, Minhajul Abedin has stated that the all-rounder Mohammad Saifuddin will be rested for the final ODI as he suffered a blow on his helmet in the second ODI and showed some signs of concussion.

Our physio, Julian, said that Saifuddin should be rested for three days, so decided to rest him,Abedin told Cricbuzz after the practice session for the third and final ODI.

The right-arm quick will be replaced by Taskin Ahmed for the final ODI against Sri Lanka slated to be played on Friday (28 May) at the Shere Bangla National Stadium in Dhaka.
