Remaining PSL 6 games to resume from June 5 in Abu Dhabi; players to undergo 10-day quarantine

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is looking to conduct the remaining games of PSL 2021 in Abu Dhabi from June 5 and the participants will have to serve a 10-day quarantine before they resume training.

The owner of Karachi Kings Salman Iqbal on Saturday (May 22) said the terms and conditions agreed between the PCB and the UAE authorities involve a mandatory 10-day quarantine period for players, officials and broadcasting crew members.

“In between there will be regular Covid-19 tests during the quarantine period as well,” PTI quoted Iqbal as saying.

According to PTI, a source in the PCB said plans were being made to fly the foreign and local players to Abu Dhabi by May 25 so that they can start their isolation period and the tournament can begin from June 5.

The report also suggests that the players and officials will also have to undergo a three-day quarantine in Pakistan before departing to Abu Dhabi in chartered flights.

The PCB has reportedly assigned an international company, Restrata, to manage the COVID-19 bio-bubble in Abu Dhabi, where the six franchises will be put up at three different hotels.

The 6th edition of Pakistan Super League was postponed in March due to positive COVID-19 cases in bio-bubbles.

Two days ago, PCB confirmed that it has received all outstanding approvals and exemptions from the UAE government for the staging of the remaining 20 PSL matches in Abu Dhabi.

The board had decided to shift the remainder of PSL 2021 to UAE after the National Command and Operations Authority, which monitors the COVID-19 situation in Pakistan, had advised it against holding the games in Karachi.
