BCCI recently announced the 20-man squad leaving for England for the World Test Championship final followed by a five-match Test series against England.

While there were rumors about the board announcing a 30-man squad and including the likes of Devdutt Padikkal, Prithvi Shaw, and other IPL stars, but it did not happen.

While everyone was sad to not see Padikkal in the Indian squad, former India selector MSK Prasad backed the Karnataka batsman and said that the youngster will eventually make it into the Test side one day.

It will take some time for Devdutt Padikkal to break into the longest format. He’s definitely the guy for the future, there are no two ways about it. But if you’re looking at longer formats, maybe he will take one more year of domestic cricket,Prasad told SportsKeeda in an interview.

Aakash Chopra feels Hardik Pandya won't be seen in Tests for a long time if he doesn't bowl

BCCI went with Abhimanyu Easwaran, Avesh Khan, Prasidh Krishna, and Arzan Nagwaswalla as the four stand-by bowlers. Prasad then talked about how Ishan Porel and Prasidh Krishna really impressed him.

You have India A bowlers, all these Prasidh Krishna and Ishan Porel have gone through India A cricket. Also, it’s pretty evident the way Avesh Khan bowled in the IPL, he was hitting 145-147 kph in the T20 format, so he will obviously be very helpful to practice within England. And eventually, these are the guys who are going to play for the country in the future,” he said.

As far as the Karnataka-based left-hand batsman is concerned, he looked really good in last year’s Indian Premier League (IPL 2020) and was able to continue his form in this year’s edition of IPL as he looked in total control while opening the batting with skipper Virat Kohli.
