Coventry's knock of 194* in 2009 still remains the highest ODI individual score in a losing cause.
In the second ODI between South Africa and Pakistan, the home team restricted the touring Pakistan side to 324/9 and won the match by 17 runs. The highlight of the match was the run-out of opener Fakhar Zaman after a record knock of 193.
While everyone was questioning De Kock’s intension, former Zimbabwe cricketer Charles Coventry ‘thanked’ South Africa’s Aiden Markram for his direct hit that sent the Pakistan batsman back into the dressing room for 193 runs.

The reason behind Coventry’s humorous tweet is that due to Fakhar’s dismissal, his knock of 194* runs in an ODI against Bangladesh in 2009 still remains the highest individual score in an ODI in a losing cause.
When a fan said that it is certainly a record not to be proud of but the right-hand batsman replied to him by writing, “Not proud but nevertheless a record.”

By winning the second ODI, the Proteas have levelled the three-match ODI series 1-1 with the series decider to be played on Wednesday at SuperSport Park in Centurion.
