Atherton pointed out that it won't be a cakewalk for the favourites.
Former England cricketer Michael Atherton has picked his choice of favourites to win the upcoming T20 World Cup 2021, to be held in India.
He had closely followed the recently-concluded T20I series between India and England as an expert for Sky Sports. Atherton applauded the way Team India beat England despite not having their three main bowlers. From the way the hosts played against England, he has picked India as the favourites to win the mega event later this year.
Atherton told Sky Sports, "I think so. They (India) probably have more strength in depth because of the IPL and the T20 cricket they play and the fact they have just beaten England without probably three main bowlers."
Since the World Cup will also be in India, the team will be even more confident with their performance against England. However, Atherton has warned that it won't be a cakewalk for the hosts as England and West Indies are dangerous sides too in the shortest format of the game.
"Put all those things together, and the fact they are playing at home, then they are the team to beat. It won't be a cakewalk – England are a very good side and West Indies and other sides are dangerous as well – but if you priced it up, you would say India are favourites," he added.
