Former India captain and BCCI president Sourav Ganguly called India wicket-keeper batsman Rishabh Pant as good as MS Dhoni when it comes to being a match-winner.

India's World Cup-winning captain Dhoni, who retired from international cricket last year, was rated as one of the finest finishers and wicket-keeper batsman. Ganguly sees Pant similar to Dhoni in taking the game away from the opposition.

Speaking on ABP LIVE Bengali, the ex-cricketer said, "Pant is as good as Dhoni. He is a match-winner.

"He can take away the game from the opponents. He can play unbelievable shots. On his day, Pant can win matches for the team, be it Test, ODI, or T20."

Pant has been in terrific form in red-ball cricket and he has played some game-changing knocks recently. On the Australia tour, the wicket-keeper batsman displayed why team management showed show faith in him.

In the last Test against England, the 23-year-old changed the game with his hundred when they looked in trouble. He scored 101 off 118 deliveries as India won the match by an innings and 25 runs.

"Pant is a natural stroke player. He will play his shots. He can change the momentum of the match within minutes," Ganguly said.

There has been a lot of criticism in the past of Pant's wicket-keeping. Some even questioned his place as a wicket-keeper batsman in the team before he showed improvement and silenced everyone.

Ganguly was impressed, too. "He has improved a lot as a wicketkeeper which is quite obvious in the India vs England Test series. He has made most of the chances he got," he said.

Pant showed good skills with the gloves in a series that was dominated by the spinners. It was not easy to keep on such tracks but the youngster did praise-worthy work.
