Ganguly endorses Fortune cooking oil, owned by Adani Wilmar Ltd. Azad is a Congress leader.
Ganguly, 48, was admitted to a hospital on Jan 2, 2021, after complaining of chest pains, dizziness, and other issues. Doctors performed an angioplasty after finding blockages in three coronary arteries.
In a statement, doctors said that Ganguly was stable and will be monitored further and a decision will be made at a later date on doing another angioplasty, given that he had three blocked arteries.
Ganguly received wishes of good health not only from his fans, but contemporaries, former teammates, and the board. Even Pakistani cricketers wished him a speedy recovery on Twitter.
However, one tweet wishing him best health contained a veiled dig at Sourav Ganguly and his choice of product endorsements.
Kirti Azad, cricketer-turned-politician, shared a ‘get well soon’ message for Ganguly on Twitter, while sharing photos of Ganguly promoting a cooking oil, which is said to be very good for consumers’ hearts.
The ‘Fortune Rice Bran Cooking Oil’ brand promoted by Ganguly in the photos shared by Azad, is manufactured by Adani Wilmar Ltd, owned by Indian billionaire Gautam Adani.
Adani is said to have close ties with the ruling BJP Party and Azad is a member of the Indian National Congress, along with his wife Poonam.
Therefore the dig came from Congress leader Azad who tried to connect the oil brand owned by Adani and promoted by Ganguly while wishing Dada all the best for his recovery.
Azad tweeted, “Dada @SGanguly99 get well soon. Always promote tested and tried products. Be Self conscious and careful. God bless.”
