Dhoni got the award for his famous gesture against England in a Test in 2011.
Dhoni was honoured by cricket's world governing body for his famous gesture during the Trent Bridge Test of the 2011 tour of England.
The great wicketkeeper batsman was captaining the Indian side when they decided to take their appeal back following a controversial run-out involving ex England batsman Ian Bell.
The incident took place on Day 3 at the stroke of tea as Bell, incorrectly presuming the ball had reached the boundary and is dead, got run-out while walking off the field.
During the break, however, the decision was overturned as Dhoni gentlemanly agreed to a request to withdraw the appeal made by the then opposition coach Andy Flower and captain Andrew Strauss. This was only wise considering Bell wasn't aware the ball had actually not reached the ropes.
As play resumed, the Dhoni's team got received by a jeering but later surprised crowd, which turned its booes into a great round of applause the moment they saw Bell come out to bat once again.
Dhoni's gesture won hearts and earned him respect of the fans all around the world.
