Steve Smith wins the ICC Test cricketer of the decade award

Smith scored 7040 Test runs at an average of 65.79 with 26 centuries during ICC time period.

Australian run machine, Steve Smith has been named the Test cricketer of the decade by the International Cricket Council (ICC), during their ICC Awards announcements on December 28.

Steve Smith, who made his Test debut in 2010 against Pakistan in England, transformed himself into a world-class batsman from an all-rounder. Smith has a total of 7229 runs in 74 Tests with 26 centuries to his name at an average of 62.31 and the best score of 239.

During the ICC Awards time period, Smith made 7040 Test runs at an average of 65.79 with 26 centuries and 28 fifties.

He also led Australia from 2015-2018 in all formats. His best performance in a series came in the 2019 Ashes series in England, which was also his comeback series after the one-year ban for sandpapergate.

Smith started with 144 and 112 in the first Test of the series but had to sit out the third Test after making 92 at Lord's but suffered a concussion at the hands of Jofra Archer.

But came back with vengeance, scoring 211 in the fourth Test match, eventually totaling 774 runs in four Test matches, at an average of 110.57 including a double hundred, 2 more hundreds, and 3 fifties.

He has justified his selection as the ICC Test cricketer of the decade.
