Shaun Pollock also recalled an incident to explain Virat Kohli’s dedication towards his fitness.
Former South African cricketer Shaun Pollock said former India captain MS Dhoni was the man who first brought the fitness intensity to the Indian team as captain and it was taken by Virat Kohli to the next level.
Kohli is not only known for his fashion sense and fabulous batting, but also for his incredible physique. The dashing right-hander is a fitness freak and known as one of the fittest sportspersons in the world at the moment – who loves to maintain his physique to perform well and keep himself healthy.
The current skipper is currently a major fitness inspiration for many and he also set the bar when it comes to fitness in cricket and even the fitness of the Indian cricket team is too high as compared to any other international team and that played a key role in their rise over the years.
Well, Pollock recalled an incident from an India-South Africa series to explain his point about both Indian cricket icons who have been great examples to follow both in terms of fitness and game.
Pollock said: “When Dhoni took over the captaincy, he brought an intensity to the party. He had a very calm demeanor in his captaincy. But when he got to the crease, he would be running hard between the wickets, the way he conducted himself, the way he marshaled his troops, it was very good.”
He further explained, “And Kohli has continued to run with it. When I go for commentating for the India-South Africa series, at times, we finish the games early, and people go to their hotels. I might go to the gym, and I often see Kohli at the gym, after the day’s play. After they have won, and they could be celebrating, but he is at the gym.”
Pollock signed off, “Dhoni was the one who set that intensity and Kohli took it to the next level.”
