Salman's younger brother Sohail and father Salim are part of an organization that has made the investment.
According to a TOI report, Salman Khan's younger brother Sohail and father Salim Khan are part of an organization – Sohail Khan International LLP – that has made the investment
Confirming the development, the Khan told TOI they "see a lot of potential" in the league.
"Given the players we have in our team, the league in general, and the passion of the fans, which are second to none, we see a lot of potential," Sohail said.
Sohail further added that "Salman will attend all the Kandy matches".
More than anything else, Sohail was elated by the fact that his franchise has managed to rope in 'Universe Boss' Chris Gayle at the SLPL player draft, which took place over the last 48 hours.
"Gayle is obviously the Boss Man, but we have a very good team. Kusal Perera is our local icon and we also have Liam Plunkett, Wahab Riaz, Kusal Mendis and Nuwan Pradeep among others. It is a good balance of youth and experience," he said.
As per the same report, SLPL has two other India-based consortiums and one based out of Sri Lanka who have bought the teams.
Former Sri Lankan batsman Russel Arnold is reported to be associated with the Sri Lanka-based consortium.
Dubai-based Innovative Production Group (IPG) was given the marketing and organisation rights for the tournament in August this year as the tournament was initially slated to be held in September.
However, COVID-19 pandemic forced the organisers to postpone the event by a couple of months.
Anil Mohan, IPG head, also confirmed the Salim Khan's family participation in the SLPL.
"They not only add glamour to the whole event but are also committed towards the sport," he told TOI.
