“Still have nightmares of Chennai,” Dale Steyn says while wishing Virender Sehwag on his 42nd birthday

Sehwag hit 319 in the 2008 Chennai Test against South Africa, his second Test triple hundred.

Virender Sehwag, former India opener and captain celebrated his 42nd birthday on October 20, 2020. He received wishes from all over the world, both from fans and colleagues and former teammates as well.

Sehwag known for his belligerent attitude towards batting, played 104 Tests, 251 ODIs, and 19 T20Is for India from 1999-2013. He made 8586, 8273, and 394 runs respectively with a total of 38 centuries, including two Test triple hundreds and one ODI double ton.

He still holds the record for the highest individual score in Tests by an Indian- 319 which came against South Africa in Chennai in 2008.

During his historic knock, he had taken the likes of Dale Steyn, Jacques Kallis, Makhaya Ntini, and Morne Morkel to the cleaners. He played just 304 balls and hit 42 fours and 5 sixes in his innings.

Dale Steyn conceded 46 runs off 48 deliveries and reminded Sehwag of that ordeal in his birthday wish to the Indian batsman.

Steyn tweeted, “Happy birthday Viru!  Hope it’s been a good one, my friend. PS. I still have nightmares of Chennai  @virendersehwag

To which Sehwag replied, “Thank you, Dale. Perhaps one day I got to make you feel what batsmen felt facing you.  Best wishes"

Sehwag retired from all the forms of the game in 2015 as one of India’s greatest openers.
