Dhoni brought down the curtain on his stellar international career on August 15, 2020.
Ever since the wicketkeeper-batsman disclosed his decision through a social media post, he is garnering praises from all quarters for his services to the game.
On Wednesday (August 26), veteran West Indies all-rounder Dwayne Bravo paid tribute to Dhoni, saying the former India skipper never panicked under pressure situations.
“As a player he used to absorb so much pressure and never panicked...Dhoni always gives players the belief and confidence which is the hallmark of any great captain,” he told TOI.
According to Bravo, Dhoni is still one of the best in the business but he respects his CSK skipper’s decision to leave the international circuit.
“As cricket lovers we would have loved to see him play for as long as possible but the reality is we have to stop some time. But there’s still the IPL and he is very much there,” he added.
Dhoni is widely deemed as one of the greatest ODI batsmen ever as he averages above 50 with 10,773 runs to his name in the 50-over format.
Acknowledging his remarkable record despite batting in the lower middle-order, Bravo called Dhoni arguably “the best finisher the game has ever seen”.
The Caribbean cricketer also recalled a T20I match against India in Florida in 2016 when he defended 6 runs in the final over against Dhoni.
“I only had to defend six runs in that over and I was bowling to the best finisher in the game. Dhoni is a very difficult opponent to bowl to, so it was a great achievement for me to stop him from getting those runs...I wish I could have bowled more to him in international cricket because I always like bowling to the best,” Bravo, who will play under Dhoni’s captaincy at CSK in the upcoming IPL, remarked.
