Recently, Indian cricket legend VVS Laxman recalled an interesting tale featuring Dhoni when the legendary wicketkeeper-batsman surprised everyone by turning bus driver ahead of his very first assignment as the full-time captain of the Indian Test team.

In an episode of Star Sports Cricket Connected, Laxman recalled how he was left pleasantly surprised by Dhoni’s own elegance in the fourth Test against Australia in Nagpur in 2008 when former captain drove the team bus – which had superstars like Sourav Ganguly, Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid and Laxman himself from the ground to the hotel.

Laxman revealed on the show: “He was the captain of the Indian team because Anil (Kumble) announced his retirement two matches before in Delhi (in 2008). And MS Dhoni asked the team bus driver to just go and sit behind, and he drove the team bus from the ground to the hotel in Nagpur, and we were all awestruck. The captain of the Indian team, driving the team bus!”

He further added, “That's how he used to enjoy his life. For him, being a cricketer was doing everything on the cricket field, but outside the field, everything was normal.”

Noteworthy, Dhoni scored 56 in the first innings and 55 in the second innings in the fourth and final Test of the series, as India posted 441 and 295 and went on to win the match by 172 runs and the series 2-0.
