MS Dhoni, the much loved Indian cricketer, earned respect not only from his teammates but also from his opponents as well. Making his India debut in 2004, Dhoni went onto captain the national team for a decade from 2007-2017.

During this tenure, he won the 2007 T20 World Cup, the 2011 World Cup, and 2013 Champions Trophy and also led the Indian team to the no.1 rankings in Tests for the first time ever in 2009.

A gentleman on and off the field, Dhoni has found even his opponents in awe of him and thanks to the IPL, he managed to play with some international players who were part of the opposition. This included former Australia captain Steve Smith, with whom Dhoni spent two years in IPL, playing for Rising Pune Supergiant franchise.

Shane Warne offers MS Dhoni to play 'The Hundred' after international retirement

Smith took to Instagram and wished his former IPL captain all the best in life after retirement.

Congrats @mahi7781 on an amazing international career. You were an incredibly tough opponent and a player that I always admired. It was an absolute pleasure to play with you for a few years at Pune and getting to know you a bit. You are a true gentleman and I wish you all the best in retirement,” Smith posted.

Apart from Smith, his Australian teammate and Sunrisers Hyderabad captain David Warner also paid respects to MS Dhoni, given that the two had many battles both in international cricket and in the IPL.

Congrats @mahi7781 on a fantastic career, he is one of the coolest guys I’ve played against on the park. #greatknock #calm #finisher,” Warner wrote.
