The ODI series will kick off ICC's ODI Super League as well.

Left-arm seamer Reece Topley earned a recall to England’s ODI side after four years for the upcoming ODI series against Ireland. This three-match series will also kick off the inaugural ICC ODI Super League.

Given that the first-choice white-ball players are absent from the England team, a number of fringe players got a call up to play the ODI matches against Ireland. These include Sam Billings, David Willey, and Liam Dawson.

The team will be captained by Eoin Morgan and have the uncapped trio of Richard Gleeson, Lewis Gregory, and Liam Livingstone as reserves in the 14-man squad. Jonny Bairstow, Tom Curran, Liam Dawson, Adil Rashid, Jason Roy, and James Vince join the new vice-captain Moeen Ali in the squad.

Joe Denly, who was dropped from the Test team earlier this month, is also selected, having moved over to the white-ball bubble.

Topley was part of the England squad that reached the 2016 World T20 final but has struggled with back problems. He underwent surgery in 2018 and was subsequently released by Hampshire, but impressed last season on a short-term deal with Sussex and then signed for Surrey.

Billings’ World Cup chances were ended due to a shoulder injury, having played his last ODI in 2018, while Willey missed out on World Cup glory due to the rise of Jofra Archer.

England's white-ball group, originally featuring 24 players, has been training at the Ageas Bowl since July 16, playing two intra-squad matches before the Lions match against Ireland. Matt Parkinson and Chris Jordan were ruled out due to their respective injuries.
