The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is being criticized by many former cricketers ever since the T20 World Cup 2020, to be held in Australia, was postponed by the ICC due to the Coronavirus pandemic.

This paved way for the IPL 2020 to happen in the same window in September-November this year, as announced by the BCCI, to be hosted in UAE due to obvious reasons. This has soured the taste of many former cricketers, but one ex-Pakistan batsman said that BCCI is of no fault in this issue.

Basit Ali revealed that the T20 World Cup wasn’t going to happen this year anyway and that Pakistan Cricket Board opposed ICC’s radical idea of hosting the event next year in 2021 in February-March window.

"Shashank Manohar didn't want IPL to happen in place of T20 World Cup," reveals Basit Ali

This clashed with the PSL hosted by PCB, who denied to postpone the event and it received support from the BCCI, one of the first members to do so.

In the meeting now, it was decided that the World Cup will not happen. There was a suggestion in the meeting that this World Cup that was postponed should be held in February-March 2021. PCB said that they would not agree because their PSL happens at the same time and the earnings from that is used in our domestic cricket,” the 49-year-old said while speaking on his YouTube channel.

BCCI was the first to say that PCB (Ehsan Mani) was saying the correct thing and how they can withdraw their event which is scheduled in February-March,” Ali added.

After that ECB head also spoke in our favor. Because of that the ICC dropped the idea of holding the World Cup that was planned to be held together in Australia and New Zealand in February-March,” he further said.

He also slammed people who are calling out BCCI and blaming them for getting the T20 World Cup postponed.

Shoaib Akhtar and Rashid Latif allege that T20 World Cup was postponed because of IPL 2020

This is a fact that people do not know. I will tell my brothers that they should research first and get the details, the talk is that BCCI has stopped the World Cup because of the IPL that is not true. The World Cup was never going to happen. If BCCI had played a game to postpone the World Cup for the IPL, they would have allowed the World Cup in February-March but they opposed that because PSL will happen at that time. Do you have any answer for that?” he added.
