Chawla was bought by CSK for INR 6.75 crores in IPL 2020 auction.
However, he was released before the IPL 2020 auction by KKR and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) bought the leg-spinner for a whopping INR 6.75 crore. He also attended the CSK camp in Chennai that happened in March just before the Coronavirus lockdown happened in the country and IPL was postponed indefinitely.
In a live chat with Shanivi Sadana on Sportskeeda, Chawla revealed that it was MS Dhoni’s decision to bring him into the CSK franchise. He said that Dhoni said this to him during the training camp in Chepauk.
‘If Dhoni believes you are not good enough, even god can’t help you’: Subramaniam Badrinath
“We were having a camp in Chennai just before the IPL was supposed to start. So, I had a discussion with him regarding cricket, and that was like I asked him about the decision of me getting into CSK, and he told me that obviously it was my decision to take you to CSK,” Chawla said.
Further, he was asked about MS Dhoni’s international future, given that the former India captain has not played for the country for more than a year now. Dhoni was looking to make a comeback into cricket via the IPL 2020, but with that postponed, his plans to return have not been confirmed.
“Well, that’s totally out of context for me because I don’t know if he will play again or not,” responded Chawla when asked about Dhoni’s international future.
