Sourav Ganguly says playing one D/N Test per series very important to get crowds in

Ganguly ensured India finally embraces the pink-ball version last year against Bangladesh.

BCCI president Sourav Ganguly was once again vocal in his support to the idea of day-night Test cricket, saying holding at least one such game per series is important to get the crowds back into stadiums for the traditional format. 

The former skipper ensured India finally embraces the pink-ball version less two months after taking over in his new position last year, when India hosted Bangladesh in a historic encounter in Ganguly's home city, Kolkata.

"I think day-night Test, one match in a series, is important because (Test) cricket needs everyone (crowds) back. We played the pink-ball Test in Kolkata and I do not think it was a normal India-Bangladesh Test match," Ganguly told opening batsman Mayank Agarwal in a chat posted on the official website of BCCI. 

"I hoped the match would have gone on for five days (but) in just three days, we managed to get 3,50,000 people into the ground," he added

Championing the cause of D/N Tests, with the Indian team likely to play the next one in Australia and then host England for another in February 2021, Ganguly, however, played down suggestions regarding the four-day Test cricket, fearing how that might impact the number of results we would have. 

"I think innovation in every aspect of life is important (but) I am not a big fan of four-day Tests because I think a lot of matches would not finish then," said Ganguly. 

"You have five days, you approach it differently. I do not think there is any need to tinker with the Test format. For me, Test cricket is the best and toughest format."
