Indian Team requires better planning to conquer ICC tournaments, says Irfan Pathan

India's hasn't won any ICC trophy since 2013 Champions Trophy.

MS Dhoni has been a star in Indian cricket having led the Indian cricket team to three major triumphs including ICC Cricket World Cup, ICC World Twenty20, and ICC Champions Trophy.

The Men in Blue have won their last ICC trophy – ICC Champions Trophy under the iconic and legendary captain in 2013.

Dhoni then handed over the captaincy to Virat Kohli across all three formats in 2016 and he led the Men in Blue to ICC Champions Trophy final in 2017, but eventually lost the trophy to Pakistan and semi-final against New Zealand in 2019 World Cup. Since then, India is yet to win an ICC trophy.

Given India’s fiasco at the final stages in the ICC tournaments, former Indian all-rounder Irfan Pathan has stressed the need to plan better going into the big-ticket ICC events since they have all the resources to be a champion.

As per PTI, Pathan said on Star Sports show' Cricket Connected': “We need to make sure that we have better planning going into the ICC trophies, going into the World Cup. If we have better planning, we have all the resources to be a champion.”

Pathan, a member of the 2007 T20 World Cup-winning Indian team, has also blamed an unsettled middle order for India’s failure in the last World Cup.

He signed off by saying, “The only thing lacking is that we did not have a number four batsman just before the World Cup as well. We were struggling with having a proper eleven. If you look at the recent 2019 tournament, it was bad planning. We have resources, we have players, we have fitness, we have everything to be a world champion.”
