Fast bowler Mohammad Amir and middle-order batsman Haris Sohail are set to miss Pakistan's upcoming tour of England as the two have pulled out of the tour citing personal reasons.

Announcing that Pakistan will travel to the UK to play a bilateral series in August and September amid COVID-19 threat, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has confirmed the news that Amir and Sohail have withdrawn from the national squad for the upcoming England tour.

Amir, who retired from Test cricket last year, will miss the T20I series in order to attend the birth of his second child in August, while Sohail has withdrawn from England tour due to family reasons.

Pakistan is scheduled to play England in three Tests and as many as Twenty20 internationals in August and September and the PCB is expected to announce a 28-man squad plus 14 player support personnel for the upcoming bilateral series.

The PCB confirmed in a statement on Thursday (June 11): “Amir has withdrawn so that he can be at the birth of his second child in August, while Haris will miss the tour because of family reasons.”

The statement further reads: “Pakistan will send 28 players and 14 player support personnel for three Tests and three T20Is to be played in August and September. The squad as well as pre-series and series schedule will be announced in due course.”

Noteworthy, Pakistan players and support staff are expected to arrive in England several weeks before the start of the first match of the series to complete the mandatory quarantine period in the UK as well as to be able to train in the country after PCB canceled training camp due to COVID-19 outbreak.

The PCB has also asked the English cricket board (ECB) to prepare an itinerary which allows the Pakistan team – which was originally scheduled to land in the UK on July 6, to reach London early in July.
