Former Pakistan pacer Shoaib Akhtar used to be highly competitive on the field. Sledging pumped him up, and it also helped him keep going no matter how the conditions are.

Akhtar recalled a sledging incident with ex-South Africa batsman Herschelle Gibbs back in 2000. It was a low scoring match between Pakistan and South Africa and Shoaib turned out to be a hero for his team by defending a low total of 168.

South Africa was bowled out on just 101 in reply, and Akhtar picked up 3 wickets in the match giving just 9 runs.

Reminiscing the battle with Gibbs, who was the only batsman remaining not-out in the chase, Shoaib wrote, "Do you remember how hot it was @hershybru? It wasn't even a spell, it was one over. Lol In such weather conditions, i was always in a hurry."

Gibbs remained unbeaten on 59 from 79 balls and his opening partner Gary Kirsten was retired hurt. Kirsten had collapsed at the crease with back spasms.
