Spin bowling coach Daniel Vettori asks BCB to donate part of his salary to low-income staff

Vettori is on a 100-day contract as Bangladesh's spin bowling coach.

Daniel Vettori, Bangladesh's spin bowling coach, has asked the country's cricket board (BCB) to give a part of his salary to its low-income staff members who are facing a major financial struggle amid the COVID-19 crisis. 

The former New Zealand captain has decided to donate a portion of his salary back to the board, confirmed CEO Nizamuddin Chowdhury.

"Vettori has said that we should donate a specific part of his salary to the BCB's low-income staff. He has officially informed the cricket operations committee," Chowdhury told Dhaka-based newspaper 'Prothom Alo'. 

The amount that the 41-year-old has decided to let go hasn't been revealed. 

However, according to a report in ESPNcricinfo, Vettori is the highest-earning member of Bangladesh's coaching staff, having signed his 100-day contract for $ 250,000. The contract runs till the T20 World Cup later this year. 

The BCB itself will donate Taka 3.61 crore ($ 428,000 approx.) to help the nation tackle the ongoing pandemic. 

Already, the country's leading international players, as well as domestic and emerging cricketers, and the players' association body have contributed towards the cause. 

Cricket boards across the globe are struggling because of the game's indefinite suspension.
