Sri Lanka cricketer Shehan Madushanka detained over illegal possession of drugs

Madushanka was carrying just over two grams of heroin when he was caught in the town of Pannala.

Sri Lanka cricketer Shehan Madushanka on Sunday (May 25) grabbed headlines because of the wrong reason. The 25-year-old was found in possession of illegal drugs.

The police official told AFP that Madushanka was carrying just over two grams of heroin when he was detained in the town of Pannala.

Shehan Madushanka, who claimed a hat-trick on his ODI debut against Bangladesh in 2018, was stopped by the police while driving with another person in a car during the nationwide COVID-19 lockdown in the island nation.

The magistrate has ordered a two-week custody for Madushanka. Sri Lanka Cricket is understood to have been informed about the same and the governing body is likely to make an official comment shortly.

Coming to Shehan Madushanka's career, the right-arm pacer has represented his country in 1 ODI and 2 T20Is so far. He has five international wickets to his name and last played for Sri Lanka in February 2018.
