Sri Lanka has offered to host India for six limited-overs games in empty stadiums.

Financially weakened by the game's suspension in the wake of COVID-19 lockdown, cricket boards across the globe are exploring options to play the upcoming series.

India’s next assignment is in Sri Lanka for three ODIs and many T20Is. While the fixtures are currently under threat because of the pandemic, BCCI said it is open to visit the Island nation in July if the government permits.

“It all depends on government directives pertaining to lockdown relaxations and travel restrictions. We are open to travel if it doesn’t compromise safety and health of our boys,” board treasurer Arun Dhumal quoted as saying by Hindustan Times.

Dhumal’s comment came after Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) requested the BCCI to consider the possibilities of India going ahead with its scheduled limited-overs tour, with its players following the quarantine rules.

Notably, Indian cricketers have been spending time at home ever since the imposition of nationwide lockdown on March 25. In fact, players residing in metro cities have been limited to fitness drills as there is not much space for them to run.

The Indian board is still waiting for government guidelines before they can arrange an outdoor skills camp for the players. Moreover, international travel restrictions are still in place.

SLC currently has no media rights holders and is looking to attract broadcasters through India series.

“If the BCCI is saying they are ready to tour, that’s just smokescreen. They are telling Sri Lanka, we are willing to honour bilateral commitments,” a source tracking developments told Hindustan Times.
